Luke Prodromou is a very experienced teacher and teacher trainer. He graduated from Bristol University where he studied English and Ancient Greek. He has an MA in Shakespeare Studies from the University of Birmingham and a Postgraduate Diploma in ELT from the University of Leeds. He taught Shakespeare at the University of Thessaloniki (1978-1982). In ELT, he has taught all levels and trained teachers in both the state and private sector. He was an RSA Diploma Course Tutor for many years and has also been involved in the DOTE and CTEFLA training schemes. He was an assessor for the RSA Diploma and between 1987-1991 was a member of the UCLES CTEFLA Scheme Committee.
He has trained teachers in many European countries and Latin America.. He has also done training work for the University of Edinburgh, Pilgrims, UCLES and Bell School. He has a special interest in drama for teaching purposes and runs courses on teaching mixed ability classes. He has worked with Ken Wilson teaching courses on drama for TEFL and was director of the drama for TEFL course at the University of Edinburgh. He has also taught on 'training the trainer' courses in the UK on behalf of the British Council. He has written books for all levels as well as a book on ESP Medicine. His most recent textbooks include Smash (Macmillan) and FCE Star and Rising Star (Macmillan). He was the 2006 winner of the Ben Warren International House trust award for his book with Lindsay Clandfield entitled Dealing with Difficulties. He has published widely in ELT magazines in journals (ELT Journal, SYSTEM, FORUM, PET, MET, ETP etc) especially in the area of culture in language teaching, the good language teacher and the teaching of examination classes, especially the FCE. He has given plenary presentations at international ELT Conferences (IATEFL, TESOL) and he has been a board member of TESOL Greece and TESOL Macedonia-Thrace. He has recently engaged in Ph.D research into corpora, culture and pedagogy at the University of Nottingham with Ron Carter and Mike McCarthy as supervisors. He speaks modern Greek and is also learning Spanish.
