MATE-Agadir MORNING wih Professor Lisa CALVIN

Post by Admin on Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:49 am

The Moroccan Association of Teachers of English
Agadir Local Brach

On Monday, June 2nd, 2008 MATE-Agadir local branch organized two presentations which were animated by Professor Lisa CALVIN, a teacher at Indiana University, USA. This event took place at AL-KASTALANI Private School, Agadir; and was attended by about 20 teachers. CALVIN’s first presentation was on the history of teaching methods and approaches. In this presentation Lisa Calvin tried to explain the objectives and the techniques used in each method from the grammar translation method to the teaching by standards (the 5cs), and also the limitations that led to the appearance of other methods and approaches. After the break, Lisa Calvin moved to the second presentation on Learning Strategies Training. In this presentation Lisa Calvin discussed the various styles that students rely on in their learning. Ms Calvin stressed the fact that teachers should be aware of these styles so as to vary their teaching strategies. After the two presentations the speaker and the attendees had lunch together which was an opportunity for further discussion and exchange views and opinions.
